Responsibilities:
Major Responsibilit! ies: As First Assistant, performs a variety of duties during the surgical procedure, such as retracting tissue, suturing to the extent of tying off bleeding vessels, cauterizing to the extent of coagulating bleeding vessels, assisting with or performing wound closures, applying surgical dressings, applying knowledge of anatomy and physiology, and potential complications for procedures assigned. Performs preparatory steps of surgery, including lifting, transferring, positioning, preparing and draping patient. Anticipates and responds to needs of the Surgeon by assuring all required supplies are available for procedures prior to incision, recognizing individual preferences. Performs other related duties as determined by specialty, including but not limited to: maintaining working knowledge of implants used, ability to apply splints, remove skin staples and wound drains.
May perform Surgical Technologist functions including the application of knowledge and experience w! ith aseptic surgical technique in the preparation of materials, supplies and equipment for the surgical procedure; assistance with gowning and gloving; preparation and draping of the surgical area; provision of a sterile field, instruments, suture and related materials; passing of instruments and/or supplies; holding of retractors, observing and reporting possible breaks in aseptic technique; and assisting in maintaining a sterile, dry, unobstructed field. Performs various patient positioning and transporting duties, which require lifting and pushing/pulling, while utilizing proper technique.

Qualifications:
Licensure, Registration and/or Certification Required: Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA). May obtain within 6 months based on department discretion. Education Required: Advanced training beyond High School in Surgical Technology. Experience Required: Requires 3 years ! of experience as a Surgical Technologist that includes experiences in r! etracting tissue, suturing, cauterizing, assisting with or performing wound closures, and applying surgical dressings.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required: Advanced knowledge and skill in major operative surgical specialties performed. Advanced knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and potential complications for procedures performed. Demonstrated ability to remove skin staples and wound drains. Advanced knowledge and skill of aseptic surgical techniques used in the preparation of materials, supplies and equipment for various surgical procedures and suturing. Demonstrated ability to anticipate and recognize Physician’s needs and changes that requires unplanned or unanticipated interventions, and responds appropriately. Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills. Basic computer proficiency.

Scheduled Hours:
Schedule details: Casual on call for the OB/GYN physicians. Hours available from 5pm to 7am.
