The Dental Assistants assist the dentist with clinical procedures and responsible for a wide range of tasks in the dental office, ranging from administrative duties to laboratory funct! ions to direct patient care consistent with professional standards and CHS policies and procedures.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Assists the dentist in providing direct patient care.
Assists in the four-handed dental procedures, including initial exams and charting, periodontal maintenance, amalgam, and composite restorations, endodontics, oral surgery, crown and bridge, and removable prosthetics.
Exposes, processes, and mounts radiographs.
Takes alginate impressions and pour molds.
Assures operation rooms are cleaned, and instruments are sterilized according to current guidelines.
Responsible for ordering, stocking, and tracking dental supplies.
Sets up procedure trays, organizing and laying out instruments for dentist use.
Maintains dental equipment following daily, weekly, and monthly schedules.
Accurately collects, records, and reports data as needed for report and program monitoring.
Submits and follows up on insuranc! e prior authorizations.
Assists in scheduling and register! ing patients.
Maintains patient files, dental records, and other information as required.
Inputs daily fee changes into the computer for posting.
Coordinates lab prescriptions, procedures and schooling with the dental labs.
Participates in all safety programs which may include assignment to an emergency response team.
Other duties as assigned.

Skills/Abilities
Ability and determination to efficiently carry out Community Health System, Inc. mission statement.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, employees and public.
Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
Knowledge and understanding of dental hygiene practice and protocol.
Ability to operate sterilizer, various dental instruments, and lab equipment.
Skill in preparing and maintaining records, writing reports and responding to correspondence.
Ability to understand and utilize ! Microsoft Office software.
Knowledge of the sociocultural factors associated with the communitys use of social and dental care services necessary.
Ability to relate well to residents of low-income, multi-cultural neighborhood, recognizing their right to participate in dental care planning and decision-making.
Ability to work under pressure and high stress, maintain personal composure, evaluate situations and act/react appropriately, and use tact in dealing with visitors, patients and difficult situations.
Ability to communicate orally and in writing; provide information to a wide variety of staff.
Knowledge of organizational policies, regulations and procedures to administer patient care.
Bilingual skills (Spanish/English) helpful, but not required.
Ability to read and respond to emails in a timely fashion.
Ability to identify and maintain confidential/HIPPA information.
Education
Completion from an accredited Dental Assistant program! required.

Related Work E! xperience
1 year direct prior experience preferred.
