The Fill-In Medical Assistants, Certified Medical Assistants and Licensed Practical Nurses assist with various patient duties including; assessing patient needs, answering questions, providing patient care; rooming patients, taking vitals and histories, giving injections, assisting with phone triage under the direct supervision of a RN or provider, assisting with procedures, administering medications, patient education and other duties as assigned. Successful candidates must be flexible to work on an as-needed basis to provide coverage for vacations, sick days, leave of absences and/or vacancies. May be required to travel to sites where needed.
Required:
State Licensure or elig! ible for State Licensure as Licensed Practical Nurse OR Graduation from an approved school of Medical Assisting.
Demonstrates flexibility to meet department needs on short notice.
Adapts easily to the workflow of the different departments
Available to work a flexible schedule on short notice.
Ability to travel to other sites as needed.

Dean Hematology Oncology LPN/MA/PCA Duties
Manages patient flow and performs patient rooming standards.
Assists medical providers and nurses in the examination and treatment of patients; assists with patient flow in department.
Demonstrates and understands sterile ! and aseptic techniques. Uses appropriate techniques in setting up or assisting with procedure.
Completes Laboratory and Medical Imaging requisitions, assists in the scheduling of procedures.
Assists medical provider with processing of diagnostic results.
Transports patients to other departments and acts as courier for specimens, x-rays, and/or medical records.
Administers medications by all routes excluding intravenous infusion. Demonstrates and understands administration techniques, recognizes and reports effects and side effects of medication, and instructs patient appropriately.
Collects and records accurate telephone information and relays it to medical provider or nurse in a timely manner.
Cleans, prepares, and autoclaves equipment and instruments in preparation for sterilizations per infection control policies and procedures.
Provides patient education only under the direction of medical provider or nurse.
Performs delegated MD/Nursing ! acts commensurate with education, training, competency and experience. !
Is responsible for performing the following responsibilities on the Oncology/Hematology Clinic side:
Working directly/indirectly with all clinic physicians in addition to supporting of assigned practice. Is supervised and reports directly to the physicians.
Scheduling of external appointments including but not limited to procedures/surgeries/diagnostic exams at St. Mary's Hospital (SMH), Turville Bay Radiation Oncology, and other area hospital labs/imaging/outpatient centers.
Scheduling and coordination of blood product transfusions, infusions, and other procedures at external facilities.
13. Perform/act as division liaison within the entire Oncology/Hematology division, including but not limited to physician group, nursing, laboratory, radiology/imaging, psychiatry, genetics, triage, clinic, chemotherapy, environmental services, registration/scheduling, social work, financial counseling, and Dean Foundation research and study.
Assists physicians and! patients during in-house procedures including but not limited to
Bone marrow biopsies, paracentesis, thoracentesis, drainage tube (Pleurx) placement, punch biopsies, and lumbar punctures.
Administering vaccinations, TB tests, and other injections per MD order.
Directing patient symptom management via telephone and MyChart (via Epic InBasket) to the appropriate discipline (Physician/Nursing)
Directing patient emotional and social needs to the appropriate discipline such as social work, financial counselor, psychiatric support, etc. through the pre-defined channels.
Assists in emergency situations.
Provide direct patient care and assistance to patients receiving chemotherapy and other treatments on the treatment side of John Q Hammons Dean Oncology and HematologyCenter. Performs with and under the direction of nursing. Report directly to charge nurse.
Duties include but are not limited to assistance with patient ambulation, assistance to and from ! restroom, and offering of center provided food and beverage. Answering ! of call lights is expected; however anticipation of needs is recommended and effectively handled with hourly rounds above and beyond answering of call lights.
Assist nursing staff in hospitality measures, including offering of warm blankets, pillows, offering of reading materials and television.
Assist patients with symptom management secondary to negative effects of treatment, including nausea, vomiting, GI upset, dry skin, dry, mouth, etc.
Preparation and turn-over of treatment bays before and after each patient admission.
Required to be available via "Oncology Support Staff" wireless telephone for department needs.
Stocking of treatment bays, refrigerator and nutrition area per stocking schedule and model.Will be expected to retrieve delivered or stored stock from the clinic storage area in the basement upon request.
Participates in site process improvement teams.
Performs other duties as required. Required Experience
