Physician Assistant - Cardio Thoracic Surgery

Meriter Medical Group offers a number of hospital based clinics and providers, including Addiction Medicine, Cardiothoracic Surgery, Dentist! ry, Gastroenterology, General Surgery, Neurology, Orthopedic Trauma, and Hospitalists.
This position is responsible for first or second surgical assist during all cardiothoracic surgical procedures. This position is also responsible for care of patients in the pre, peri and postoperative periods.
1. Responsible for morning inpatient rounds prior to providing assistance in the OR.
2. Responsible for providing and coordinating patient care in the pre operative, peri-operative and post-operative phase under the direction of the supervising surgeon.
3. Responsible for all medical documentation surrounding patient care in a concise, legible manner.
4. Responsible for providing first or second surgical assist support during all cardiothoracic surgical procedures.
5. Responsible for timely arrival and completion of all job responsibilities, particularly those cases in the OR, without having to be reminded or paged.
6. ! Responsible for taking call with frequency determined by depar! tment needs.
7. Responsible for patient, staff and physician assistant student education.
8. Responsible for data collection for studies as approved by Meriter Hospital and MMG.
9. On call responsibilities may make it necessary for physician assistant to be readily available for emergency or elective surgeries or work-ups that may occur after normally scheduled hours.
10. If on call, responsible for regular communication with supervising surgeon to make sure all tasks and surgeries are addressed.
11. Maintains an effective working relationship with other team members and physicians in the department.
12. Responsible for maintaining hospital and MMG standards for clinical and surgical care with patients and co-workers.
13. Assures medical licensure is current.
14. Communicate and report on issues and clinic performance to supervising surgeons and MMG Management.
15. Maintain a safe environment f! or patients and other personnel.
16. Communicate and obtain approval for all requests for vacation and continuing medical education with team members, supervising physicians and MMG management.
17. Complete special projects as assigned.
18. Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements:
~Graduation from an accredited Physician Assistant program.
~One clinical rotation in cardiothoracic surgery.
Preferred:
~Masters of Physician Assistant Studies with emphasis on cardiovascular surgery or medicine.
~1-3 years experience in cardiothoracic surgical department.
