Assists in the planning and delivery of nursing care to patients served within the practice site.
This incl! udes pre-surgical preparation, post-surgical nursing care, performance of patient treatments, and documentation of all care provided.
Essential Functions (These are the fundamental job duties the incumbent must be able to perform with or without a reasonable accommodation. Essential Functions also include: Communication; Relationship/Teamwork [ Leadership/Teamwork ], Compliance, and Motivation )
Assists practitioners with patients; escorting patients to rooms, collecting urine specimens, taking vital signs, and patient teaching as directed by a physician.
May assist nursing staff in admitting patients in the pre-operative area.
Informs nursing staff of any patient concerns.
May assist in the post-operative execution of physician orders.
Assists physician with treatment of patients such as: handling of instruments, tube changes, dilations, catheterizations and Foley insertions, dressing changes, clip removal, remov! ing sutures, discontinuing IV’s, etc.
Draws and adm! inisters injections, oral medications, bladder installations, etc.
Assists with surgery and/or procedures as requested.
Schedules required tests.
Talks with patients regarding scheduled tests and test results as indicated from charts after review by physician.
Answers minor medical problem questions for patients.
Makes telephone calls to patients regarding physician orders and/or prescription medications ordered by the physician.
Stocks appropriate medical and drug supplies.
Assists in routine cleaning of patient rooms, waiting areas, and toys, and maintains accurate cleaning logs.
Conducts daily, weekly, and monthly sterilizer tests including cold sterilizer testing.
Accurately documents all care provided to the patient in the patient’s medical record.
Respects and maintains confidentiality.
Works in a safe, compliant, and ethical manner at all times.

Graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant program and a valid certification preferred.!
Experience and training as a medical assistant with demonstration of appropriate competencies may be accepted in lieu of completion of medical assistant program.
6 months â€" 1 year of prior Medical Assistant experience preferred.
Must be computer literate and familiar with the software used at the practice site.
