B6/4 - Orthopedics
Nurses on this 27 bed orthopedic unit provide care to patients with a variety of orthopedic injuries and conditions. High volume electi! ve surgeries include joint replacements and spine surgeries. In addition to elective surgeries, the nurses on this unit care for trauma patients with a wide range of orthopedic injuries resulting from motor vehicle, industrial, farming, and other accidents. Surgical nursing is the major emphasis; however this population provides the opportunity to utilize both surgical and medical nursing skills, including cardiac telemetry monitoring. Pain management is a high priority with the orthopedic patient. Nurses are exposed to and become very proficient in utilizing multi-modal therapies in managing pain. Patient education and multidisciplinary collaboration are important aspects of care provided. Nurses work closely with physical therapy and play an integral part in preparing patients for a safe discharge.

Qualifications

Education:
1. Baccalaureate degree in nursing preferred.

Work Experience:
1. One (1) year recent acute medical o! r surgical experience required.
2. Orthopedic nursing expe! rience preferred.

Licenses & Certifications:
1. Registration as a professional nurse in the State of Wisconsin required.
2. CPR certification required.

Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:
1. Knowledge regarding quality improvement and standards of care within practice area.
2. Experience in teaching patients and families.
3. Excellent communication skills. Ability to effectively delegate and supervise the work of other nursing team members.

Physical Requirements:
Medium: Ability to lift up to 50 pounds maximum with frequent lifting/and or carrying objects weighing up to 25 pounds.

Pay

This is a Represented position and falls into Pay Grade 6FR. The salary range begins at $29.43 per hour. Education, experience, tenure and internal equity may be taken into consideration when job offers are extended.

Work Schedule

70%, Evening/Night, 8/12 hour shifts, B wee! kend rotation. Hours may vary based on the operational needs of the department.
