The candidate should have good academic credentials and some experience in a research laboratory setting. An ideal candidate will be fam! iliar with basic molecular biology techniques. Experience with basic biochemistry techniques, particularly protein expression and purification, would be advantageous but not required. Excellent attention to details and exceptionally strong communication and organizational skills are absolutely essential.
The successful candidate will assist with all aspects of research aimed at understanding function and structure of ion channels conducted in the laboratory of Dr. Baron Chanda at University of Wisconsin. He/she will be expected to work closely with laboratory members in a supportive capacity. Specific duties will include but not be limited to: vector design, PCR , molecular cloning and mutagenesis, solutions and media preparation, bacterial and insect cells culture (occasional weekend work to maintain cultures will be required), protein purification and analysis (protein chromatography, SDS PAGE ), occasional frog surgery (Xenopus laevis) and treatment of oocytes, ! and management of laboratory archives and chemical inventory. - .
