Work in this department:
Responsibilities:
preparation of materials, supplies and equipment for surgical procedures (e.g., assistance with gowning and gloving; preparation and draping of the surgical area; provision of a sterile field, instruments, suture and re! lated materials; anticipation of the Surgeonsâ needs; passin! g of instruments and/or supplies; holding of retractors, observing and reporting possible breaks in aseptic technique; and assisting in maintaining a sterile, dry, unobstructed field). Assists in the cleanup of the room between procedures. Makes the necessary preparations for subsequent procedures and for the next dayâs procedures, including restocking, supplying and coordinating materials required for use on procedures. Cleans, wraps and sterilizes instruments and supplies as needed.
Sets up, according to each physicianâs specification preference cards and operates the various types of equipment used during OR procedures, especially as it relates to the area of specialization. Updates preference cards as needed. Refers to cards to help maintain cost effectiveness with supplies and minimize OR time. Maintains a specialty cart or item, ensuring its completeness and availability. This includes checking the working condition of equipment, sterility and reporting damage! d items to intervention supervisor. Signs off checklists and assigned duties and maintains reporting logs of sterilization as required. Ensures the environmental disinfection, safety and efficiency of the operating room. This includes setting up the room for each case, which involves moving equipment (i.e., tables, cameras, microscopes, fracture tables, instrument pans), maintaining adequate supplies. Able to troubleshoot minor equipment problems.
Qualifications:
Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA). May obtain within 6 months based on department discretion. Advanced training beyond High School in Surgical Technology. Requires 3 years of experience in as a full time practicing Surgical Technologist.
Effectively communicates with all members of the health care team. Must be flexible in scheduling to meet the needs of the department.

6 mon! ths of surgical tech. experience, and GI experience preferred

6:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Hours may vary within this time frame. No weekends, holidays, or on-call work required.
