Responsibilities:
Great opportunity for a new or experienced hepatologist to join a our liver disease program.
Due to the expansion and growth of our Liver Disease and Abdominal Transplant Program, we are seeking an additional Transplant Hepatologist, GI preferred, to meet pat! ient demand and expand the capabilities of this successful pro! gram. Qualified candidates will be Hepatology trained either through an ACGME accredited GI pathway or a non ACGME accredited Internal Medicine pathway.
Established in 1998, the Liver Disease and Abdominal Transplant program is a UNOS and Medicare approved program which evaluates patients with the whole spectrum of liver problems including management of primary liver disease, evaluation of metastatic/primary liver cancers and end-stage liver failure requiring liver transplant. Hepatology and surgical expertise include hepatectomy, ablation therapy (radiofrequency, cryoablation, chemoembolization), hepatic artery chemotherapy infusion pump placement and liver transplant. Developing a Split Liver Transplantation Program and Expanded Donation after Cardiac Death Donor Program is a priority of the future plans for the program. For the past several years we have been the largest liver transplant program in Southeastern Wisconsin, with excellent results of complex, high MELD ! patients.
With offices located on the St. Luke’s Medical Center campus, the Transplant Clinic consists of 7 exam rooms with a support staff of 7 including RNs and administrative assistants. A distinct Liver Disease Clinic is also located on the campus, and is staffed by nursing, physician assistant, customer service, and medical resident staff. On-site ancillary services include lab, radiology (CT, MRI, etc.), pharmacy and surgery. The Liver Disease Program also works collaboratively with the Aurora Visiting Nurse Association to provide patient pharmaceutical education and support in the home. The Clinics are part of the Aurora Medical Group, a 1000+ physician multi-specialty group with over 100 clinics and an extensive referral base throughout Eastern Wisconsin. In conjunction with more than 3,600 affiliated private practice physicians and 15 hospitals, Aurora Health Care provides patient care in more than 90 communities, from just south of the Illinois border to the! Upper Peninsula in the north.
St. Luke's Medical Center is a 700-b! ed charter member of Aurora Health Care and Wisconsin’s largest private hospital. While St. Luke’s is recognized nationally as one of the top cardiac care centers in the United States, it also offers advanced care in treating digestive diseases, neurological diseases, cancer, hyperbaric medicine, and houses the Vince Lombardi Cancer Clinic. St. Luke’s Medical Center is also affiliated with the University of Wisconsin Medical School through its Milwaukee clinical campus offering residency and fellowship programs in a variety of specialties. Teaching opportunities are available through its Internal Medicine Residency Program and Gastroenterology Fellowship Program. Research interests are welcome.
