The Director of Surgical Services is responsible for the direction and management of the operational, financial and human resource acti! vities of the Surgical Services Department in support of the mission, goals and strategic initiatives of the University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics. The Director works closely with a variety of stakeholders, coordinating the activities of Department/Area across the enterprise. Areas of responsibility include:
- Management of Surgical Services which includes 26 Inpatient ORs (including iMRI), and 9 Outpatient ORs, 7 American Family Children¿s Hospital (AFCH) ORs, Inpatient, Outpatient and AFCH Post Anesthesia Care Units (PACU), First Day Surgery Unit, Ambulatory Surgery, and AFCH Pre/Post-op, Anesthesia support, GI Procedures and APC Prep and Recovery.
- Provide direction and coordination of the development and implementation of policies and procedures affecting all aspects of the operation of the Surgical Services Department.
- Responsible for all expansion projects within Surgical Services. Provide involvement and input as needed for bu! ilding projects for UW Health that have a Surgical Services co! mponent.
- Responsible for purchasing and resource management of all equipment and supplies for Surgical Services Department.
- Responsible for overall human resource management and quality improvement efforts for the department.
- Ensure departmental compliance with Joint Commission on Healthcare Accreditation (JCAHO) triennial survey and standards as well as other requirements set by state and federal regulatory bodies.
- Maintain a healthy work environment for all disciplines who practice within Surgical Services.
Qualifications
1. Bachelor¿s Degree from an accredited college or university in Nursing and Master¿s Degree in Nursing, Nursing Administration or Bus! iness Administration required.
2. Five (5) years of administrative experience in an Operating Room required.
3. Registration as a professional nurse in the State Of Wisconsin required.
4. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to include the ability to negotiate and resolve conflicts and build teams required.
5. Demonstrated creativity and flexibility required.
6. Ability to operate in high-pressure situations required.
7. Excellent organizational skills.
8. Demonstrated innovative approach to problem resolution.
9. Ability to work collaboratively across UW Health entities and disciplines. Demonstrated commitment to patient- and family centered care.
10. Broad knowledge of modern health care administration practices and principles within a managed care environment and/or an academic medical center.
11. Effective analytical ability in order to develop and analyze options, recommend solutions to and solve complex problems and ! issues.
12. Demonstrated effective managerial and administrative le! adership of clinical operations
13. Knowledge of principles and techniques used in negotiation as applied to service contracts and equipment purchasing.
14. Effective organizational, planning and project management abilities.

32. Physical Requirements: Sedentary: Ability to lift up to 10 pounds maximum and occasionally lifting and/or carrying such articles as dockets, ledgers and small tools. Although a sedentary job is defined as one, which involves sitting, a certain amount of walking and standing is often necessary in carrying out job duties. Jobs are sedentary if ! walking and standing are required only occasionally and other sedentary! criteria are met.
Pay
This is a Non-Represented position and falls into Pay Grade 13N. The salary range begins at $113,035 per year. Education, experience, tenure and internal equity may be taken into consideration when job offers are extended.
Work Schedule
Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 5:00pm. Other hours will be required to meet operational needs of the department.
