The Nurse Clinician is a full performance level registered nurse position. The focus of this position ! is to assume the responsibility for support of the patients at the Digestive Health Center (DHC). The nurse clinician will be a member of the clinic team with responsibilities including, but not limited to: patient triage, prescription renewal, monitoring of lab results, patient/family education, and the surgical work-up process. The nurse clinician will also be trained to work in the Surgery Clinic, which includes but is not limited to specialties such as colorectal surgery. The Nurse Clinician systematically and continuously collects and assesses data in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team to provide therapeutic care for the patient and/or family. He/she performs all required elements of a nursing assessment including but not limited to physical examination, assessment of readiness to learn, psychosocial assessment, functional assessment and utilization of patient/family specific assessment scales as required. The Nurse Clinician is an active member of the multi! disciplinary team and collaborates in the development, executi! on and evaluation of the multidisciplinary plan of care. The Nurse Clinician considers factors related to safety, effectiveness and cost in planning and delivering care. The Nurse Clinician decisions and actions with patients and families are determined in an ethical manner.
The Nurse Clinician establishes goals and strategies for meeting the discharge or continuing care needs of the patient, family, and/or other care provider. The Nurse Clinician provides care in collaboration with other nursing staff members; he/she delegates and supervises care in accordance with nurse practice acts and the professional nursing role.
The Nurse Clinician utilizes research findings in his/her practice. He/she demonstrates knowledge of and participates in Improving Organizational Performance activities. The nurse clinician acquires and maintains knowledge in nursing practice and assumes responsibility for the professional development of self, other nursing staff and studen! ts.
This position may be cross-utilized at other GI locations based on operational need.
Qualifications
Education
1. BSN preferred
Work Experience
1. One year relevant ambulatory experience required
2. Current colorectal-surgery clinic experience preferred
3. Demonstrated and strong patient teaching skills preferred
Licenses & Certifications
1. Registration as a professional nurse in the State of Wisconsin required
2. CPR certification required
Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
1. Knowledge regarding quality improvement and standards of care within practice area
2. Experience in teaching patients and families
3. Excellent communication skills
4. Ability to effectively delegate and supervise the work of other nursing team members
Physical Requirements
1. Medium: Ability to lift up to 50 pounds maximum with frequent lifting/and or carrying objects weighing! up to 25 pounds
Pay
This is a Represented position a! nd falls into Pay Grade 6FR. The salary range begins at $29.43 per hour. Education, experience, tenure and internal equity may be taken into consideration when job offers are extended.
Work Schedule
Hours may vary Monday through Friday between 6:30am and 6:00pm based on operational needs.
