The Nurse Practition! er/Physician Assistant functions as an independent healthcare provider who, working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary health team including 3 pediatric surgeons and 2 pediatric nurse practitioners, is responsible for providing comprehensive care to both well and ill patients in both the outpatient and inpatient settings. He/she demonstrates a high degree of clinical expertise in working with patients with acute and chronic illnesses, specifically disorders requiring the attention of pediatric surgery specialists. He/she provides care and educates patients and their families on wellness care and treatment plans for health disorders, and intervenes in acute episodes. He/she develops criteria for and participates in the evaluation of the quality and effectiveness of care. He/she plans and participates in learning opportunities for nursing and medical students. He/she works with administrative, nursing, physician, and university faculty to assure quality patient care a! nd to promote education and research. This Nurse Practitioner/! Physician Assistant will practice at the American Family Children's Hospital between the hours of 8am and 5pm Monday through Friday.
This position will be covering the needs of the Division of Pediatric Cardiothoracic Surgery until necessary. Once Peds CT's needs have been met, the APP will then move to the Division of General Surgery to work on the pediatric service.
Qualifications
State of Wisconsin NP or PA licensure If NP
Master's Degree in Nursing with specialty preparation as a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner AND
Certification appropriate to practice area (where applicable) AND
Certificate as an advanced practice nurse prescriber or qualifies to obtain certificate as appropriate
If PA, Graduate from an accredited PA program and successful completion of NCCPA examination.
Extensive knowledge of physical assessment, differential diagnosis, pathophysiology, pharmacology and management of acute and chronic patient/family health probl! ems
Two years of relevant clinical experience preferred
Surgical experience preferred
CPR certified
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Schedule
This is a 40 hour per week position that has a regular schedule Monday - Friday from 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. This position will include morning and evening rounds when necessary.
