Starting this fall/winter and lasting anywhere from 1 to 6 months, this ED will have a need for EM locums to do about 4! -6 shifts per month. Candidates MUST be ABEM or ABOEM certified…no exceptions.
The top types of ER patients you’ll see are - Abdominal pains, Extremity Injuries, Back pain, Chest pain, Lacerations (all types), Kidney Stones and Respiratory illness. They have a fair number of STEMI (acute MI), Stroke and Trauma patients. Patient acuity is quite high at a Level 3 on the 1-5 triage scale.
They also see Urgent Care types of patients with complaints of tooth pain, upper respiratory illness, sore throats, and UTI’s.
They average about 35 patients in a 24 hour period, with 60% of the patients coming into the department between the hours of 11am-11pm.
The ER physician in also responsible for the PA and signing off on their charts.
