TITLE: Surgical Technologist (495) DEPARTMENT: Surgery REPORTING RELATIONSHIP: Surgical Services Director / OR Manager SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES: Assist in care an! d handling of surgical supplies and maintain an aseptic environment. Adheres to infection control practices applicable to surgical procedures and processes Understands and utilizes various medical supplies used in a acute care facility, including surgical instruments and equipment Demonstrates prop! er instrument and equipment proper preparation, sterilization,! and maintenance\Medical terminology Performs appropriate surgical gowning adhering to hospital policy. Performs scrubbing and gloving procedures Utilizes universal precautions for handling blood and body fluids. Adheres to policies and procedures, protocols, guidelines, and standards of the unit for safe, quality patient care. Participates in unit quality activities and attends educational opportunities and meetings. Responsibilities include: Organize the supplies and equipment in the operating room Set up the operating surgeons sterile table anticipating what might be needed during the procedure Assist with draping patient. Help the surgeon and any assistants don their surgical gowns and gloves Count surgical instruments before and after the surgery Maintain integrity of sterile field Prepare the sterile dressings Passing sterile instrumentation to the surgeon during the operation Clean the surgical instruments after the operation Assist with cleaning the operating room a! fter the operation Assist with the transfer of the patient to the recovery room
Experience: 2-4 years orthopedic experience as a surgical technologist Education/Training: Graduate from a recognized surgical technology program or has successfully completed military training in surgical technology. Required military documentation (DD214) to establish education. Licensure/Certifications: Valid CPR certificate. After receiving a certificate or diploma from an accredited institution, a surgical technologist can take an exam to qualify as a Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) or a Tech in Surgery-Certified (TS-C).
